Nova Scotia SPCA seeks to resolve cat dilemma in HRM with presentation to Council

Nova Scotia (Friday, January 22, 2010) –The Nova Scotia SPCA is pleased to have the opportunity to address Council today at 2 pm in the Councillors’ Boardroom on the 4th Floor of City Hall. In a special meeting, the Nova Scotia SPCA has been invited to weigh in on the matter of homeless cats, strays and ferals in HRM.

“We hope that the meeting will be well attended. We will be presenting a compelling solution to address the dilemma of cats in HRM. This solution will meet the needs of all stakeholder groups: the public, animal welfare groups (inclusive of rescues, shelters and TNR groups) and the government. With government support, the Nova Scotia SPCA will be able to implement a comprehensive strategy that will be impactful and turn-key. HRM will be able to take a leadership roll in the province in addressing homeless, stray and the feral cat population and the SPCA will play a pivotal role in advancing animal welfare standards and resources. Our solution is non-lethal and cost effective and we look forward to sharing it with Council,” said Kristin Williams, Executive Director, Nova Scotia SPCA
