MEDIA STATEMENT

Halifax, Nova Scotia (Thursday, December 17, 2009) - Today, in a gesture of good faith, the Nova Scotia SPCA presented a settlement agreement to Ms. Janice Bingley. Ms. Bingley is currently at the centre of an ongoing animal cruelty investigation involving a number of Great Dane and mixed breed dogs from Westville.  The conditions and stipulations in the proposed settlement included restitution and prohibitions. The Nova Scotia SPCA is disappointed to report that Ms. Bingley refused the settlement.  In accordance with the Animal Cruelty Prevention Act, the Nova Scotia SPCA will be proceeding with the case. The animals seized on October 19 will remain in the custody of the Nova Scotia SPCA.

The Nova Scotia SPCA is committed to updating the public and media on the status of the investigation as it moves forward.
