Nova Scotia SPCA and Disaster Animal Response Team of Nova Scotia sign MOU

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Nova Scotia (May 16, 2011) ––The Nova Scotia Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSSPCA) and the Disaster Animal Response Team of Nova Scotia (DARTNS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding which will allow DARTNS to provide assistance, service and comfort to animals which are or come in to the care of the NS SPCA as a direct result of a major investigation and for other services for which cooperation may be mutually beneficial.

The MOU was signed on April 13, 2011, by Barry Manuel, President, DARTNS and Neil Fraser, Chief Provincial Inspector, NS SPCA.

DARTNS, a Not for Profit society partners with the Canadian Red Cross, and in times of disaster, when needed, will set and run emergency shelters for companion animals. The NSSPCA is dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals and to the promotion of respect and humane care for animals.

Nova Scotia has the distinction of being the first place in North America to pass laws for the prevention of cruelty to animals and this MOU reflects the significance these organizations place on animal welfare, awareness and education.
