MEDIA RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Nova Scotia (January 31, 2012) –– The Nova Scotia SPCA is delighted to announce the appointment of a new interim board of directors to support and represent Cape Breton for the Nova Scotia SPCA. The board was appointed by motion of the Provincial Board of Directors on the evening of Monday, January 30, 2012. The new board will serve in an advisory capacity until the final legal application process is complete.

"Cape Breton should indeed be proud of this new board. Each candidate demonstrated a wealth of professional skills and expertise along with a passion for the cause and a love of animals," said Executive Director of the Nova Scotia SPCA, Kristin Williams. Williams added "each member is uniquely talented and qualified for the immense task ahead and positive and optimistic about what is possible."

The new board includes Lori MacMullin (President), Dr. Dan Yakimchuk (Vice President), Carmen Dunn (Treasurer), Kerri Manuel, Brian MacDougall and Barbara Tryon. Nearly 20 candidates were interviewed for board positions and six were appointed. The current board reserves the right to appoint additional members, for a total of 12 members. All candidates indicated their desire to volunteer in addition to being considered for the board.

"This is a very exciting time for our shelter with many opportunities that will allow us to facilitate positive change that will impact animal care, public relations, employee relations, fundraising activities, and so much more," said new President, Lori MacMullin.

The new board has been appointed on the heels of a preliminary report published by the Society indicating their current findings and short term plans for the next 4 to 6 weeks. For a copy of the report, visit: http://www.spcans.ca/cape-breton-news.html.

The public is encouraged to continue to offer their support, either through adoption, volunteerism, monetary donations, or donations in kind or of services. To learn more about, please visit the Cape Breton Branch at www.spcans.ca.
